I'm Jules, a Senior Digital UI/UX Designer. I've been working within digital for over 13 years. As a hands on UI designer, I get involved with concepts, visual exploration, UX documentation, photography and lots more. Working closely with UX is also part of my ongoing professional development, but I mostly specialise in interfaces, refining and adapting visuals throughout the process. I believe in clear, bold and honest approaches, within language and design.
I work closely with all team members on a global level, with past clients and colleagues based in India, Russia, US, and Australia. Sharing work and collaborating is just part of the average working day and I’m happy to use any platforms from Slack to Skype to maintain that connection.
I started out my career working with Macromedia Flash and Director, animating and programming interactive experiences using ActionScript and Lingo from as early as 2002. We had great creative freedom and the web was ablaze with experimental, playful digital games and sound toys back then. From 2004, I started teaching and coding websites with HTML and CSS. This gave me a good grasp of web fundamentals along with the inevitable rise of web standards and best practices, which paved the way for usability and accessibility. The industry was growing exponentially, and my role evolved to UI/UX.
A designer should be immersed within a multi-disciplinary system and engage in UX thinking from the outset. By doing this we can play a vital role in securing objectives for the business and its brand, as well as shaping the aesthetics so that it is both pleasing and functional.
A visual design throughout its life cycle, should be a dynamic system and evolve over time. I encourage open and holistic views to fresh ideas to help clients go beyond their vision.
Photography is an important area within my work. I've been exploring this for the past 15 years, and now approaching this with fresh eyes in my latest course, studying for a Diploma @ The British Academy of Photography. I integrate this work and knowledge within my digital work, to not only promote stronger narratives, but to highlight and reveal reality, bringing digital work to life. I’ve been recently exploring studio lighting and photo-retouching/post production. I mostly capture landscapes, nature and the environment.
